The girling ones on Pauls site are period spec items. I believe they are still available from Girling if you know what you are asking for. Can't comment on his alloy S calipers specifically, but most of his other stuff is absolutely excellent quality wise.

I had heard Norton motobikes had alloy versions of the S caliper - so maybe a bike shop/collector might know?

Formula Fords had to use steel calipers and my FF expert reckons the caliper they used that were the same as Norton's were actually the Mini Cooper caliper, not the S. He says the pad is small and rounded, so I suspect possibly even the 997 caliper. I've never taken the pads out a Cooper, so have no way of checking at the moment.

The common alloy caliper for minis was Girling that used Lotus Elan/ Vauxhall Viva pads and was fully discussed in a previous thread. Casting number 64327683. They save 4 lbs over an S caliper. The discussion if not this actual forum, then it was its predecessor.

i sell quite a few cooper sized pistons and repair kits to a bloke who has restores / owns notons - he was delighted when he found that they where a cheap off the shelf mini product as he had been hunting around at auto jumbles for ages looking for these (rare) norton parts!

i got the impression that 'racing norton tax' was similar to the mark up that 'bmc' 'works' 'cooper s' add onto a ebay advert!
please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares

Formula Ford people go back to iron calipers so alloys are leftovers?
