Brake pedals - Drum vs Disc
After having issue with the brakes on the mini and using a pedal box from a drum braked mini, some people suggested that the pedal arms are different.
Its a long shot but does anyone have one from a disc and a drum braked mini to compare? I wan't to see if they are different...

Re: Brake pedals - Drum vs Disc
the disc one does make a huge difference when used over the drum one
a cheap trick is just to get one from a mid 1980s car and cut the pedal pad bit down to match the early clutch

Re: Brake pedals - Drum vs Disc
I'd confirm what rich says above, you just can't get a decent feel to the brakes with a drum brake pedal. Even with 4 pots.

A disc-brake pedal is also thicker... about 1,5-2 mm thicker I think.

Re: Brake pedals - Drum vs Disc
So... this may solve my brake issues.
I'm currently using a drum pedal and my brakes barely scraped through the MOT due to the amount of travel.
I'll swap to a disc pedal and see if it improves

Re: Brake pedals - Drum vs Disc
I have got a drum one on my cooper s brake setup
passed the mot fine, brakes don't feel bad, nowhere near what you get in modern cars but stops just fine
I do want to put a s pedal in mine (hence my wanted ad) wasn't sure if it would make much difference but at least it would be the correct part

As did mine, but and it's a BIG but. When it came to actually stopping down my favourite mini road it ass a different matter. First of all cooper S disks and pads, shite, then Cooper S brakes and black stuff pads, still shite, Minispares 4 pots and black stuff pads, then green stuff pads still shite.
Then a brake though

Re: Brake pedals - Drum vs Disc
Just compare it to a clutch pedal... if it's visibly thicker then it's a disc pedal.

Difference between the 2 types of brake pedal, S been disk braked and the bottom one the pedal from a drum braked mini.

I've got unservoed s disks with a drum pedal and they are fine. They are your textbook mini brakes in fact.

Re: Brake pedals - Drum vs Disc
Ditto, bog std S discs and cylinders, no servo, drum type pedal and mine lock up with reasonable right foot effort. If you can get your car to lock up, how much more do you need ?? I've just hammered it round Aintree, absolutely flat out and very heavy on the brakes. No problemo. In the shed wrote:I've got unservoed s disks with a drum pedal and they are fine. Re: Brake pedals - Drum vs Disc
The angle on the pedal cannot possible alter the "feel" or the "effort" The only thing that can, is the length between the two holes, clevis pin-> brake pedal shaft, and the length of the pedal itself.

Re: Brake pedals - Drum vs Disc
ive always thought that the cooper s pedal was angled so that when its pressed and its working, its at the right height for 'heel & toeing'
if you use a drum brake pedal its further down, so its harder to dance the pedals

Re: Brake pedals - Drum vs Disc
I also use one foot on both pedals and it's fine.
Perhaps it has been swapped.
