1071 Cam
Hi.
I finally have my rebuilt 1071 short block back and looking good. All the rotating side balanced.
When I bought the engine it came with a 544 reground cam and said to be near new.
Now I have the short block done, head is rebuilt and gearbox looks good I don't want to get anything else wrong.
I'm not going to be racing the car, its just for weekend fun on the road. What Cam would you suggest is good for a 1071?
cheers
steve

Re: 1071 Cam
The std 997 Cooper cam was excellent in a 1071. Have what is claimed to be a genuine 544, it's a bit rusty from lying about. Will dig it out and see.

Re: 1071 Cam
For Fast road in a 1071 you can't beat the 544, I have used it loads of times on different engines & it has never disappointed. For a more sedate moderate road cam the 997 Cooper is a decent option, but hardly a fast road option.
With a well set up 544 you should get a good tick over at about 1200, it will pull reasonably from about 2,000 with good power from about 2,4000.
The 997 Cam will drive like a standard car but more so.

Well I had to tow with mine, but the 997 Cooper cam would still pull 7,000 in top with a corrected rev counter and 3.4 cwp.

Yes, the 1275 was on the trailer. So the 1071 got the final drive from its box. Admiitedly it wouldn't pull the trailer at 7,000 in top.Vegard wrote:In a 1071?ivor badger wrote:Well I had to tow with mine, but the 997 Cooper cam would still pull 7,000 in top with a corrected rev counter and 3.4 cwp.
