BMC Green Engine Paint

Post by alexm »

Evening all,

I want to buy some BMC green engine paint for my 1965 cooper engine. Last time I painted an engine this colour (some years ago now) I think I ordered the Frosts paint and it looked pretty good. Before I use this again I thought it worth asking if this is the correct colour, and whether there was another paint/supplier that would be a better bet?

http://www.frost.co.uk/classic-transpor ... 500ml.html

Thanks,

Alex

I use Frosts & find it to be perfectly ok, but there is another thread about this which might help you

What do you do to your engine before painting? Have heard folk sanding heard folks just degreasing.. What's everyone's thoughts?

cellulose thinners get rid of pretty much everything. Then look at giving it a key with something, if it looks like it needs it.

I'd avoid sand blast as I have just got a 1380 with a trashed crank and oil pump that only ran for a few mins before loosing its oil pressure due to the numpty that built it being clueless

I just paint the "top coat" straight onto clean oil free metal like they did in the factory. Never had a problem.

looking at the way it flakes off old engines I suspect that 'oil free' is quite a bit away from the way it was done!

Next time you have an engine to bits, note the brown varnish that builds up. Celly thinners is the stuff to use. It has the same effect with crap on the outside.

Incredible.
