Reverse light switch for remote change setup

Post by abri »

I am looking for a reverse light switch for a remote change gearbox but I'm not sure what to get or where to get it. This seems unavaialble http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/GAE131.aspx but it seems there are quite a few little parts needed to install this properly. Has anyone with experience in this got some tips or guidelines on where to find the parts and how to install them?

I got all my bits 2nd hand, you need the switch in that link above, plus the fibre washer and the little plunger/distance piece, you can make a plunger using the dimensions in the above link.

It screws into the hole with a plug in it behind the oil filter.

Then just (!) run wires through the headlining to your reversing light... Bingo!

There's a possibility I may have a spare one or something similar. Will have to check my S box to see if they match. :?:

Thanks for the replies so far. My plan is for this to go on a 3 syncro S box, so if anyone has spares of the correct parts, I'd take them off your hands happily.

Abri, remind me to check during the weekend. I most probably have one, if I find it it's yours.

If the parts are that tricky to find, you can always put the reversing light on a switch.

I found my switch from a Triumph TR6. Its used for the gearbox as overdrive switch. The switch body is a little bigger then the switch from minispares. Digging in my memories it was almost plug and play.
Only the adjustmant was a bid tricky, as the plug normaly adjusts the gear lever forces. Now you exchange the plug with the switch. So you need to play arround with different washers until the switch is triggered correctly and the gear lever forces are comfortable and smooth.

Thanks for the advice.

@ Ricardo, we'll be in touch after you've had a chance to look.

@ Mark, that is tempting if only due to the fact that I've read a horror story of someone dropping parts into his gearbox and having to remove it to get the bits out. Are these switches reliable or do they sometimes fail and cause problems for the gearbox? I'd hate to stuff up an S gear set with a stupid mistake.

you have no worries with the reverse switch, its fitted into a 'blind' hole, so nothing can escape into the gearbox

there is only a plunger (can be made), a spring (which is a normal detent spring) and the switch (can be found with hunting)
should you wish, you can contact me on rich@minispares.com

Thanks Rich. I guess the other post I read was a load of crap then. That's a relief.

Not sure what it would cost to get it to you.
