Engine paint colour

Post by petrolhead »

I believe the proper paint colour for early mini engines is Middle bronze green BS381 223

Any idea where I can get brush on and spray on

The engine paint from Minispares is not bad at all match wise, when I get engine paint I just get it mixed, a bit more expensive, but always the correct colour. No need for "High Temperature Paint" normal body paint is fine.

Just out of interest should I be looking at Gloss, Semi Gloss or Satin finish

what you need to remember is that in period, the paint would have been delivered in huge drums, so the engine shade would depend on the batch, how well it had been stirred, how many drums had been tipped into one another.

the final finish would then depend on what day of the week it was and probably how militant the bloke operating the spray gun was feeling that particular day!

How close is the MS paint compared to the one I linked to?
