Original Insulation -- Boot floor, 1966 Mk 1 Cooper S ?

Post by jl46 »

Hello All,

I'm looking for information as to what type of INSULATION material (if any) was fitted at the factory on the Mk1 Cooper S in 1966.

I believe there was a one piece under the bonnet and the bulkhead piece. Was there any insulation on the BOOT floor under the spare ?
If so what was it? Does anyone have photos of an original or restored boot with this insulation ?

Many thanks,
Jim

The factory glued soundproofing to the boot floor, under the rear parcel shelf and placed it inside the open boot lid sections. There was soundproofing glued to the roof panel, under the rear seat, on the rear side panels, the door skins and behind the dash trim. I should have some original photos I can post later.

This is the sound deadening in the back of my old MEG, originally a single tanker. Not quite sure if a twin tanker would have it between the battery box and the R/H tank....

Thanks for the photos Pete. Just what I was looking for.

Does anyone know who might supply an insulation that would match this original material ?

You should find it on newton website

I think you can ask them an enquiry for the bonnet and boot insulation

Or take a look at minispares.com

There were AT LEAST 2 types of bonnet insulation the underfelt type already referred to and a sort of compressed glass fibre (not GRP, just glass fibres) type that was pre formed. The one in Pete's picture looks like the Glass pre formed type. I don't know of anyone who does these now.
