Non-mini remote housing

Austin America remote housing installed by previous owner in the early 70's. Functions fine but I don't care for the bulk under the floor; interferes with routing the exhaust. As you can see in the photos, a strap over the tunnel on the inside supports the housing. I'm content to continue using this setup but have to wonder if there is a better method to adapt the AA housing to the Mk1 tunnel?

Use the standard Cooper mounting system, You'll have to drill and tap the rear of the remote housing for the two holes for the mount [5/16" UNC] and three holes through the tunnel for the mounting bracket. The parts are still available.

I remember reading somewhere (but I can be wrong) that the sandwich plate brings the remote housing a bit further to the rear (it makes sense). The original remote bracket bolts are fitted near both limits of the seat tunel box, so you may have little or no room to fit the front bracket bolts if the sandwich plate brings the bracket too much towards the rear. Perhaps it can work with a thinner rubber mount?

I can be wrong, I've never seen it done.

I have done the conversion from 850 Magic Wand to the 1275 remote housing you are talking about. I used the setup 1071Bob provided. Worked perfectly.
If you need to pop the engine out at a later date. You only need to loosen the nut at the end and drop the housing at the sandwich plate.
