Maluti Rally
This weekend we did our first Rally. Monte style interspersed with regularity stages. What fun!
Below are a few iPhone pics, mainly using the Instagram app. Which is appropriate as we did the entire rally relying on downloaded applications to tell us distance covered, actual and average speeds. Next time we're using proper equipment like most of the other competitors (see example below of what we were up against).

Re: Maluti Rally
We drove down in four Minis, and did the rally in two of the cars. The scenery around Golden Gate National Park is spectacular. Pics of the Rally attached

Re: Maluti Rally
Which Mini would you say is the odd one out of the four in the very first pic?

Re: Maluti Rally
I would say it´s FBH...
Mk2 chassis wiht SA doors should be more rare than any Mk1 Cooper

Re: Maluti Rally
Actually FBH is a Mk1. A previous owner converted it to look like a Mk2 (rear lights, boot, bonnet and grill). It was a blast on the rally though, arriving early at every checkpoint. Pity that wasn't the objective...

Re: Maluti Rally
Thanks for sharing such fantastic pictures. Any chance of a bit of a report too. As a lot of the posters on here know I absolutely love SA & have been over quite a few times, it would be brilliant to be able to come over & do an event like this in the future.
I assume from your comments that using your cell phone & downloaded apps for navigation was not as accurate as it was hoped. Good try though!

Re: Maluti Rally
That's right - we've already got hold of a holtrip for the 'hotrod'. At least we'll be able to calibrate our distance travelled against the stage and regularity instructions. I'll do some research on the series and post further details. The Polana Rally in March, 3 days from Pretoria to Maputo sounds like a must do event!
The question was somewhat tongue in cheek
- all four cars are Mk1 1275 Austin Cooper S Minis
- FBH is the only one converted to Mk2 specs (our 'hotrod' which we did the event in)
- JJX is the only one not wearing Minilites, and the only one still on wet suspension (my son's drive, having left the 1071 behind this time)
- CA is the only non-green car and only one without the SA spec bucket seats
- LLX is absolutely gorgeous, real patina and still has its original paint and correct Aussie doors
