My Dad is just finishing off rescuing an early Mk2 998 Austin Mini and has a problem with the choke cable.
Although the car was complete when we got it, it was robbed of quite a few parts as it was going to be scrapped and so the car was dismantled without much regard for details.
One such detail was the type of choke/throttle cable mounting bracket it had between the carb and manifold. The cable that the car had fitted when we got it was the Mk1 bakelite type with CHOKE on it.
As the picture shows, the bracket fitted is the Mk1 type (as fitted to my 1960 Mk1) but the choke cable looks to be at an awkward angle and makes the operation not very smooth. On my Mk1, the cable passes through the bulkhead UNDER the crossmember, making the flow of the cable upwards much straighter than shown in the picture, where it comes through the bulkhead in the usual place.
Does anyone either know for sure what configuration choke cable and bracketry is correct for an early Mk2 or have any pictures of engine bays of early Mk2's ?
