Damper alternative

Post by scott6058 »

Hi fellow mini enthusiast.

I'm building a normal 1071 engine for my basically stock 64 Morris Cooper S and I thought I would ask about the standard harmonic balancer or damper sometimes its called. I hesitate using the stock one many choose from Mini Spares for it truly is an old design. Does anyone have any suggestions on something more current to technology today? I know Romac makes a nice unit.
Thanks very much for all advise.
Cheers Scott

scott

I would have no issues using a standard one, the 1071 is such a sweet motor anyway that its not thrashing around like the longer stroke 1275.

ive never used anything but a balanced std one with no issues ever
please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares

As above or if your feeling flush and want the ultimate you want a viscous damper. KAD do one but it's not cheap.

Hi Mates
Thanks very much for your suggestions. I really don't have any toys.
What better toy than a well sorted 64 Cooper 1071. Still a dream but I plan to run it hard.
Thanks again Scott

I'd get the MED one to be honest. Fairly cheap, and plug and play.

There's no reason for fitting a bloody expensive damper to a 1071 anyway...
