Brake Resivor Cap, 2 pieces?

Post by Ratkiller »

I have an 62 Morris Mini Minor, Deluxe. After checking the brake fluid level, I noticed when I tighten the resi cap it split into 2 pieces. Is this normal?

Perfectly normal, that's how they are.
Allows the cylinder to vent.

GraemeC is correct. The cap is made in 2 pieces, which are press fitted together, to form a sort of labyrinth for the vent.

They shouldn't come apart when you screw the cap on though!
Probably an age thing...

ive seen them fail when people push the pistons back to swop the pads, the excess fluid in the master fillers the cap up and pops the top off it.
please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares

62 Morris Mini Minor probably came with the original metal caps now available again from Minispares:
