SU Pump setting points

Stripped an SU electric pump as it had died. Managed to revive it but it was a guessing game.
How do you set the points on these things. I screwed the diapraghm in and just kept trying it on the battery charger till it functioned. The points looked knackered so i gave them a rub and now I have a bright blue spark on one of the point pads , nothing on the other. I daresay this will get the car going but I ordered a new set of points and could do with this info for when I fit them. Thanks in advance. Mark
