Sealing hydro pipes

Post by AndyB72 »

Any tips on getting a good seal on the metal hydro pipes, should I just tighten them up or use some sort of sealant? Any recommendations.

Hi Andy, I have fitted up my last 3 cars without any need for sealant or suchlike. I made sure the threads were minty fresh and that was it. I have heard a few people mention plumbers PTFE tape but think that is more a belt and braces measure. Good luck. Mark

Because the pipes and fittings seal on flares, a hydraulic sealeant applied to the flare seats is about all you can do but there should be no need if everything is in good condition. Plumbers tape should not be used anywhere on any motor vehicle, in my opinion.
