I have seen options with the use of a copper pipe that is routed in front of the carbs and without. Can anybody shed a little light on the subject?

Heater pipe routing
My RHD august 63 registered S has got on the Heritage certificate that fresh air heater is fitted. Now I'm not quite sure the way the routing should be for the heater pipes and hoses.
I have seen options with the use of a copper pipe that is routed in front of the carbs and without. Can anybody shed a little light on the subject?
