Red Carpet Set, who, where?

Post by atlanticdave »

As above, looking to freshen up the interior, just wondering who supplies a good red carpet set for my mk1. The one currently in it was from Newton commercial, any other recommendations appreciated.

Dave I don't know how handy you are, or you might be able to get them to cut it to size for you but Woolies also provide good quality materials:

I made mine Dave,
Pretty easy if you have the right sewing machine and good templates as original carpets for example.
Depending of the material you use, you might just need one seam for the front carpet - which make the carpet to fit around the tunnel and can be made by hand.
I used some wool carpets, and preferred topstitching every piece and adding some vinyl reinforcements, around the floor articulated accelerator pedal for example - my car is LHD.
Finding the closest material to the originals Cooper carpets I had in the car was challenging however. Colour is OK but ribbing is slightly too small - originals were the first generation of carpets, the car being a may '64 S.
Some friends have used the Newton products : they are good quality, I think they fit pretty well, and the latest ones were OK in colour - quite bright red - and ribbing for duplicating a first generation set of carpets. However, this material is nothing close to the second type of carpets used in Coopers, and the fact they are now moulded isn't correct. I hate the twin moulded in rubber pads, but I understand you can order a set without. Still a good choice I think.z
Hope this help,
Regards,
Etienne

Thanks for that guys, I was thinking of making one actually, I have done it before, and very recently for my '76 1100 clubman project.

Think I am just getting lazy and was really looking for something well made already and good quality. Will check out woolies, and see if I can get a sample or two.
