vibrations/harshness through engine mounts?

Post by 814CWE »

anybody had problems with the new repro engine mounts transmitting harshness/boom ???

especially in top gear under load..

this is a 998 std engine (pre a plus)running a 22g 68 3 synchro box in a 1962 mk1

they seem much harder in compound than the originals, which were sadly too rotten to re-use

unless the harshness is summat else...if i hadnt had the engine to bits,i would swear the crank main bearings were worn, but its all ok inside

any feedback on the mounts would be appreciated..ta

One of my cars also had a motor rebuild by a previous owner who swears everything was balanced, but it rattles the fillings out of my teeth. I has "new" engine mountings. Me thinks its time to hunt for a good used set. Even with new plastic bush in the remote gearchange it does not stop the rattling.

there you go,,,im not the only one....

recently tried some from mini mine,,,no comment

the later rover spec rubber mounts prob were harder but you get away with this coz they are on rubber mounted subframes

us with the early cars have to "ruff it" and put up with the "shaker maker"

pity sombody cant make softer mounts for the early cars with solid mounted frames

ive compared a new old stock mount "mowog" to a new mount

im no scientist but the rubber on pressing with a spike seems at least 4 or 5 times harder

if i had the coin,id get some made but sadly not cost effective for me to do so
