Clutch Pressure Plates

Anyone else had any trouble with the thrust bearing attempting to grind its way through the center part of a pressure plate, are the new ones centers 'less robust' than the old ones, and if so are there ways to get round this (everything was adjusted correctly, the bearing shows no signs of wear)

Yes, I have had this too in recent times. I recall that it was an AP one too. The old ones where very hard and these new ones are quite soft. I just re-use the old plate these days. The Borg & Beck ones are still OK.

Interesting, this one is AP and less than a year old

Sorry, just to clarify, it is the centre that I re-use in to new plates

I have had this problem too a bout a month ago, new everything, less than 2000 miles, and the bearing wore a groove into the pad that it pushes on.

I only noticed it because i had to remove the motor and fix the idler gear bearings, but I'm sure the clutch adjustment would have shown it up eventually.

Used a good 2nd hand pad to fix it.

Looks like I will have to go through some old ones and find one without wear to change it, not happy though, I can see some pictures going off to AP (or other companies if they also have a problem)

I remember reading (on here I think) about this problem. It appears that the thrust release plates were made of inferior material and or not hardened during the manufacturing process.
The latest offerings from the suppliers have the "proper" release plates.
