Suspension cones

Post by App K »

Has anybody got a measurement (length) for a standard alloy cone?

I think these have been made in two lengths over the years. Im struggling to machine off the required amount on 21A 1684 to enable me to acheive the lowered ride height on the rear having fitted mini spares yellow spot race rubber. Removing 10-15mm is just on the limit before you are in the "inside" of the cone and then you run out of shaft for the ball joint to seat.

No Hi-los allowed with appendix k.

Cheers.

the 21a1684 is the alloy trumpet originally used on the van, then became the standardised trumpet on all 12" wheeled cars.

the other one is shorter.

cant you just cut the 21a1684, shorten it and weld it back up?
please note, these are my own, individual sales, nothing whatsoever to do with my employer, minispares

Be sure you're run those yellow spots a lot before setting the height.. They will take quite a few races/session to "sink in".

If you're clever, you run the car in on Hi-Los, then cut the trumpet after everything has settled like Ed advices.

Cheers guys..

Will run on the Hi-Los to bed in, and cut and weld the trumpets to suit later. Dont suppose it makes any difference which trumpet then if its a cut and weld job, either will do.

If you want to get paranoid about it , you should'nt use 21A1684(=Van/Estate) as 21A1683 was saloon and S had a different number as I recall. I have one here somwehere

21A1683 has a smaller flange on it so would soften the suspension. Someting different to ponder.

I'll get my anorak...

You would want to use a trumpet which has the same (or as close to) diameter as the Hi-los you use.
