Been giving the mini thorough shake down today and noticed the rev counter seems a bit sea sick and waves around... Any ideas what could be causing it?

Re: Rev counter waving...
if its an old 1960's rev counter they do seem to do that with electronic ignitions - the old one in my blue 1071 engined car has done it for years (and will occasionally bounce from 0-8 like a metronome), it lies like a cheap watch and is no use as a rev counter, ive never bothered swopping it or trying to have it fixed as i dont rev it hard enough to be an issue
the modern smiths ones are stepper driven, so dont do it, the modern one in my white car is rock solid.
have you run it in yet?, ive never seen a red line set so low

Ha ha, I've not set the red line yet, maybe I should buy a more modern rev counter as I'm knackered if I know what it's revving too like that

That is one awesome sounding Mini, the straight cuts sound a lot less harsh than many I have heard.tomkidd wrote:P.s. hope you like the soundtrack
I use a combined electronic speedo & rev counter, not quite as instantly visible as a needle type, but it also has a shift light, which is adjustable. Previously, I had a very old Smith's rev counter, the needle was always steady, but the reading changed with ambient temperature.

Cheers guys, yeah it does sound nice, I am wearing ear defenders most of the time though
Its running megajolt and the rev counter is wired straight into the EDIS module so it may be something to do with that.

My rev counter is wired to the Megajolt and does the same thing, I've got one of the tacho conditioning boards to fit when I get around to it.tomkidd wrote:Its running megajolt and the rev counter is wired straight into the EDIS module so it may be something to do with that.
