Is this for timing reference or just a mark from machining or similar?
Then, if this is useable for timing, what does the "spikes" on the A+ timing cover refer to. I know I could've checked when the head was off, but I didn't.

Always better to make your own nice obvious timing mark with a blob of Tipex or similar.

1. Shine a light in the inspection hole and find the timing marks on the flywheel. If your engine compartment is crowded you may need a mirror-on-a-stick.
2. You could buy one, or just make a positive stop TDC indicator out of an old spark plug; drill it out, thread it for a bolt. Set it up to touch the piston a little bit before TDC. Adjust your timing marker (bent piece of wire bolted to the block) to point to your damper, make a mark on the damper. Then rotate the engine backwards until the piston touches again, make a second mark on the damper. TDC is halfway between the two marks.
