Aintree Track Day May 26th

Post by Pete »

Ideal test day this and was very well organised last year with cars going out in classes so you won't have to be looking in your mirror all day. Miles cheaper than Oulton and other similar track days.

Taking my Hornet to this on Saturday,Dave (Mk1 Rally) is taking his Tweed Grey 'S', John Marsden his Mk1 'S' sprint car and Colin Flynn his Mk1 HSCC racer. Hope the weather holds up, spectators can come along £5 each, worth coming along to browse quite a variety of machinery on the day.

Pete, fantastic days motor sport, great weather, not expensive. I will be back in September and this time in my own
car.

Yes it was a fun day out John ( sorry mate I can't bring myself to start calling you bloody Gupta ! ) , really enjoyed it, very happy with my 'mutant' (though solid mounts are now on my 'to do' list) , let's not talk about my fuel leak (still giving me nightmares  ).
Sadly Dave got an early bath due to clutch issues and Colin had distributor problems but a very well organised and sociable day with loads of track time, (still haven't got the hang of 'Club' though, don't think there is a tidy way round that one !)

Rich that GRP bonnet was worth waiting for (just !) as it's a nice panel and won't take too much prep to paint it (next week). Saves about 9Kg and boy does it lift a bit when you hit three figures :o (it was pretty windy though). Got the boot to do next which doesn't look as well made (wobbly !) and is from a different supplier. Got the handling how I want it now though I did have a bit of bumping on the back end round 'Village' which is a fourth gear corner (well it is in mine) , not sure it was the car's fault (or mine !) or the rough tarmac.
Got a horrific fuel leak after the r/h tank became detached from it's collar - you need a different angle neck coming through the rear body of a Hornet/Elf. I think a fuel cell is next on the shopping list !

it always makes me laugh when you see people selling elf tanks as 'suitable for minis'.... they are different

Great pictures, love the hornet Pete. Well you learn something new everyday, I thought the tanks were the same, thankfully I have one for mine. Might have to get me one of those bonnets, they look great.

John was driving George's Rover Cooper Dave, don't think the 'Guptamobile' was ready. I think we're all up for another get together at Castle Combe in September but me and Dave have got CPOP at Chumly in a few weeks so better give the wellies a dust off !
