I have one of the Rover P6 Glass Tops.
After the Triplex GTX (Scimitar), then The Sotherby Specials (Astons), the P6 was intended to be the first series car to be fitted. I dont know the true reason for the project being canned, but circa 12, perhaps 15 cars were fitted from a batch of 150 pieces, Balance were deemed out of spec so returned to remelt. Mine is a toughened Sundym, but at least some were bronze Reflecafloat.
One shipped to NY motor Show, several to Au, at least a pair went new to Holland, and the rest appear to have found first usage with Pilkington execs and Rover. Brochures were produced, a price was declared and journo's drove some at a test day in the midlands. You can find articles in Motor Autocar. The plan was that completed cars were to have the roof swap with Roof Installations in W London, but after the initial batch it seems no more were made.
At the time a webasto option put on circa £80, the Electric metal slider was £125 and the fixed Glass Top a similar sum. (about 10% uplift on the list of a 4 cyl P6.) Perhaps realisation that sized call just would not justify the disruption/profit equation?
