A 25 million quid car now.
Could it be Gurston down, coming back down the hill after the runs?
Very possibly.

Those sprints were run on part of RAF Yeovilton. Now the Fleet Air Arm Museum (definitely worth a visit).

I thought the sprint at Yeovilton was on the perimeter road that links the old hangers( which are still there )behind the properties in Bridgehampton. The hangers are painted light blue and are now used for agriculture use .

That brings back memories of what Fleet Street used to be like in the 1960s. I remember taking part in an all night Motor club walking treasure hunt in the City of London using map references to identify features on buildings or the ground. Always finishing with an early morning breakfast in a cafe used by the print workers on their way home.

brings back my memory of next door neighbour who ran a Evening Standard Minivan for donkeys years in Oxford .. inside the Van it was full of used String & Pink Paper that was used to wrap the Newspaper Bundles for shipping on the Train from London to Oxford. that Mini Van always seemed to be clean & tidy on the outside.

XJB 306H, one of four Austin Maxis that took part the 1970 London to Mexico World Cup Rally, sponsored by the Evening Standard and driven by Ireland’s Rosemary Smith and co-driven by Alice Watson and Ginette de Rolland. This intrepid trio finished 10th overall, won the Ladies Class and won the Class 2 category for 1301cc/1600cc.

I always said they are great cars for obvious reasons. It's just a shame that when they were introduced they had faults which should have been sorted
before they came on the market. Why let the customer do the development work.Same old story.

Another London / Mexico rally Maxi crewed by Tish Ozanne, Bron Burrell and Tina Kerridge. Bron ( on right) bought it back a few years ago and is still using it on historic events.
