Garage racking and storage ideas

Can anyone recommend a cost effective racking and storage box solution ?

Tough no screws and bolts, storage racking, assembled with a rubber mallet is a regular feature in my Saturday efition of the Daily newspapers.

I got a set, used but like new from a friend who was downsizing. Can be added to, higher or lengthwise. LOTS of add-ons available to add more shelves etc etc. Will carry an MGB GT V8 engine so pretty tough and strong

Yep, reminder from below....... BIG DUG was the mane of the stuff. And pretty good too!

On a tight budget, I built my own using seconds-grade square RHS steel, with shelves made from melamine coated chipboard from a kitchen upgrade. I was surprised how quickly I could cut and weld the steel frame, compared to framing it in timber, and because its pretty strong there is minimal height wasted between shelves. The shelves are spaced to fit plastic storage cubes. I could do with more, but I've run out of walls.

Yes a bought some of this, being 450mm deep it saves a bit of space over the 600 deep. Was straight forward to put together think I got the tallest and longest bays. I then populated it with some second hand plastic packing Tote boxes off ebay, which were really cheap.

yes i know the feeling when you run out of wall space i feal that one can never build a shed big enough for all the toys we gather although my shed has a table saw that u used for making kitchens back in the day still use it from time to time for little jobe lots of people are trying to get me to sell it but it is so handy so it will go in the estate for them to fight over also i have about 1/4 of that unipower gt mock up that i started some time ago along with the v8 engine for it and lots of other bits

Make sure you check the shelf can hold a decent amount of wait, there’s some eBay special cheap ones that are made of cheese..
Also check the bigdug postage last time I needed one small shelf they charged me a quilt a bit.
You will spend hours on the big dug site there’s almost to much to choose from.

I bought these shelves recently, it is sold by many different names, but as far as I can tell it's all the same stuff, and this was the cheapest I found it, and cheaper than Screwfix and Toolstation etc

You wouldn't want to put an engine on it, but for boxes of stuff, it's pretty sturdy.

Yes Roger, with the woodworking tools, vehicles, spare parts and also my COVID working-from-home office, there's not enough space in mine. I may be forced to get rid of something...

Fruit and veg cardboard trays from the supermarket. Choose with care to get the ones with the triangulated pillar corners.(you may need to choose which supermarket to use) They stack floor to ceiling, carrying a colossal mass in total. Though avoid leaky fluids..come in different depths from about 100mm to 200mm.
Second option I bought a quantity of bale arm crates - the ones with a bar across each end which swings out to let them nest or swing in to stack. Buy 100 and the price is £1 each, flog off what you dont want and make a profit as everyone moving house will buy 10 for £25. Dont buy the plastic bread trays, they are too big, loaded up you cant swing them about easily. More and small is best.
