mk1 Cooper S fuel tank vent pipes
Hello looking for some advice, coming to the end of rebuilding my 1967 Cooper S but have realised the vent pipes in the boot are missing their brackets please could someone point me in the right direction as to the clip location, how many, and are they just welded pieces of bent metal ( same as underside holding the brake pipes), if possible a picture would be greatly appreciated, many thanks in advance.

Re: mk1 Cooper S fuel tank vent pipes
My 69 S has the original rear seat uprignt and....
Tabs, JUST over 1/2" wide. Spot welded from the top. 1 in the centre and two others 10" to the left and 10" to the right.
Also, for reasons unknown to me, there are two other redundant tabs on the right hand side going vertically/symmetrical to the vent pipe tabs on the left hand side. These are also spot welded on - unlike te clip-in type shown in the article thread that Hipwell refers to below
Just spot welded on bits of bendable steel
Hope this helps

Re: mk1 Cooper S fuel tank vent pipes
By 1967 RH tanks were standard fitment on the Cooper S. I am with the belief the tabs were all spot welded by this time and not separate clips. There were 3 tabs spot welded to the underside of the rear parcel shelf, then two on each side, running vertically on the rear bulkhead. The tabs on the right were for the tube on the left tank, and the tabs on the left held the tube for the RH tank.
The three under the shelf held both. Hope that makes sense pics of my boot area showing tab location.

As I said in my comment and as shown by Tech (above), quite what the two right hand side vertical clips were for is a mystery!
If they were to support or direct a right hand vent pipe downwards, then where was the pipe supposed to exit the car? The only place would be through the main battery lead hole grommet. Not a good idea!

Peter, on my mk2 s I have 2 holes, one slightly bigger than the other, the big one iz fir the battery lead, the other for the vent from the nearside petrol tank. On the nearside there is also two holes, again of different size, one fir the petrol pipe the other fir the off side petrol tank vent. Shame Minispares only sell one length of the vent pipe and it's 4 feet too short. I went to an aquarium shop and bought a reel!

Peter, there (should be) two holes. One for the battery lead, and another smaller 5/8" hole for the vent pipe from the left tank.Peter Laidler wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2024 10:19 am As I said in my comment and as shown by Tech (above), quite what the two right hand side vertical clips were for is a mystery!

Yep and agree with you both. Mine doesn't have the second hole. Probably due to new part boot floor during restoration.

The non-gen and heritage floors are made for single tank cars.
