I think it was a 1071 crank in standard steel and some kind of big bore block.

SA crank was a very strong item...had larger journals...used A + rods.
Bore 70.6mm
Stroke 68.85mm
Engine displacement ....1097cc
Cranks are fairly rare now....and difficult to find a good standard one.............they were a favorite for fast rod and racers...could be stroked to use the S rods.
Very strong reliable cranks.

Im not sure any Mk1 ‘non Coopers’ are selling for that kind of money anymore. I’ve a mate in London with a lovely fully restored OEW/black Mk1 998 Cooper selling for £20k ono.
There are quite a few advertised at around £20k Pete (and a few well north of that) but they've been hanging around for a while now. I look at the ads on c&c most days and some of the Minis have been on there since the start of the year.

If I had a spare £20k and somewhere to put it I'd be interested in your mate's 998! I thought I'd managed to shake off the Mini bug a couple of times but it refuses to budge and I find I'm almost constantly looking at the for sale ads. I'd love another Mk1 S / or a Mk3 S / Radford / W&P / Nev Trickett Sprint / Innocenti one day.

I’m in the same boat as you Nidge! If anyone knows anyone wanting a beautiful 1970 MGB GT in Blue Royale with 15” wires, MGC bonnet and Webasto, I’m itching to get back into a nice Mk1! Almost bought DPU back but was pipped at the post!

Add another to the ‘looking to get back into’ list

I’m looking for ideally a Mk1 Rally/ Race car, it’s noticeable that lots (very highly priced) are just sitting there for months and months , in the case of a couple they are now scheduled for auctions.
Do know of a couple of Mk3 S, and one 74 rally car all around the 16-24k mark, but problem is there’s a limit on the events they’re eligible for.

My gut feeling is it’s a case of biding ones time and seeing how those auctions go, there’s a massive price reset going on but it’s where it resets that’s the question.

Stop it Tim, just stop it!

It's not just Minis for me, I keep looking at Jag Mk2s, S-Types, 420s and Series 1 XJs, Jensen Interceptors, Volvo P1800s, MGAs, Bs and Cs.... it's ridiculous!

Presumably the auto it started life as was a 67 and the log book on it now is the D suffix registration?
If it has been married up to an S log book then it seems a very honest price.

I read the ad as a Cooper S recreation, over something that has an S logbook.

One of few honest mk1 ads it seems 😂 good value over an appx K car as well.

I did too at first - but the couldn’t marry up the fact it was a 67 and on a D plate
