1963 Cooper S on BAT
The voltage regulator had me scratching my head but the rest of the car looks like yet another very dry survivor in the U.S

What a lovely thing!
If it was mine, I'd leave it exactly as it is, possibly find some decent 2nd hands carpet & that would be it.

The Nikki carb would have to go too

I mentioned that I would sort the carbs, but that would be it - what a great survivor it is!

I would certainly paint it (I hate tatty cars) but reuse as much of the chrome and interior as possible.
Nikki carbs, as seen in your Mum's catalogue in the 70's.
I had one on a 1970 1275GT - I binned it, fitted the correct SU and air filter and it must have gained 10 bhp. It went much better.

If anyone paints that car they should be arrested! You just can’t recreate that kind of patina, so unusual to see genuine ageing on a car like that and it’s pretty tidy as it is! VW guys spend alot of effort getting their cars to look likes that!

I'm with Pete, should be refreshed and used as is, not painted, would be interesting to see if its a Cooper with upgrades, or a genuine early 1071

The chassis/engine numbers predate mine by 200(ish)/100(ish). My Heritage Cert has a 3 Oct build date.
The FE number is about 20k earlier…
He does provide all the numbers on the auction site, so if anyone was in a position to peek at the Gaydon records……..

Very stiff money, particularly in this climate. Just shows that people will still pay really good money for an interesting car.

The U.S market is certainly stronger than ours. A lot of them used to come here ten years ago but the Americans now value them as much as we do, possibly more so. I remember when I bought MEG in the early noughties American buyers weren’t interested! Times have certainly changed!
