Noise coming from clutch housing on MK 2 S.

Post by Cammsjb »

Help please.
I have replaced the clutch plate recently and I took my car out today to see if all is ok, but there's a weird groaning noise coming from the clutch housing when the clutch pedal is depressed to change the gears, which all engage ok, the noise stops when the clutch pedal is released and the car is being driven.
Any advice on what may be causing this noise will be appreciated.
Regards,
John.

Could be the release bearing

Sorry I didn't mention that but I did replace the release bearing when I changed the clutch plate, maybe a faulty bearing?

Too much overthrow? Just guessing really but if you're pushing the crank over, it's not nice.

Trying to work out what happens. When the clutch operates, you're spining the crank in the primary gear, instead of the primary gear spinning at crank speed. Wondering if a worn primary gear bush would make a noise. The back plate becomes unclamped. I had a noise once on a rebuilt engine, where an engine mounting bolt was clipping the flywheel. If you use the wrong length bolt it can touch the flywheel. Not sure how that would happen when the clutch is operated as the flywheel is not moving,

Just me rambling hoping it will trigger something with someone.
