Shipping to New Zealand

Post by Pete »

Anyone had experience of shipping parts (set of wheels) to New Zealand from the U.K.? Any tips or recommendations? TIA

Pack them in lots of 2 rims and weigh them. Then go on to parcel2go.com and get a quote. You can get them picked up from your hone and then sent to NZ. R

Being mindful of the total cost including shipping on the customs declaration will be helpful.
Otherwise it is straight forward.

I would avoid DPD and Fedex - never had any success with sending overseas with them. Better ones seem to be DHL and UPS, not as cheap but get it there. Use their respective websites. An other option is transglobal express which have been very helpful in the past with big stuff. I am finding the cheaper options tend to screw the customer at the other end for fees

Another vote for UPS for international shipping, posted a fair few items to the States etc using UPS and no problems.

Havent shipped anything overseas for many years but I’m trying to ensure they’re insured for the correct amount so if they do go missing or get damaged I’ll be covered but of course if that’s the case the import duty declaration needs to be fairly acurate!?

I'm not sure how the couriers are for insurance payouts but if they're anything like Royal Mail, saying an item is worth £100 (for example) is worthless unless you can prove what you paid for it (I'm talking about the sender not the buyer) by way of receipt or similar.

The RM managed to lose a parcel (recorded delivery .. again pretty pointless as its not tracked through the network) with used parts that someone paid £125 for . I can show what they would cost new from MiniSpares but have no receipts as they all came from various sources (auto jumbles etc). So, all they will pay me is the postage !!! Tried numerous times along with copies Paypal receipts to no avail.

You’d have to do some checks on import taxes into NZ, as you say you want a reasonable value for insurance purposes, but a high value might mean high import duty

In Australia they only charge import tax on values above AU$1000 so sometimes we’ll split orders to keep it under (as the tax varies 15-25%).

Some countries also have exemptions for “classic car parts” or depending on the country the item was manufactured in

Transglobal every time, they do the paperwork for you including import documents.
Set up an account easily and they will give you quotes online.
We use them daily for our worldwide shipping including pretty much every country.
They have their own service and use all the main carriers too.
Insurance is essential but optional.
So far everything has arrived as planned for over 10 years unlike before using main carriers alone.

Keep the value under $NZ1000 (say GBP450), then you shouldnt be charged any GST @15%.
If you are going to send 2 packages, send a couple of days apart. Customs arent entirely stupid here in NZ, they may notice the 2 items and add them together.

A vote for a consolidator, like the Transglobal group. It will take longer because of them grouping items for shipment, but the cost will be less, and the wheels will be actually delivered!
