Re: Spin on oil filter kit
Got that Norman, but the basics are the same. My original filter head assembly had some missing parts. Probably stuck to the oily bits and thrown out over the years. Probably by the police garages who 'serviced' it in its early life
BAD is also correct in that if you want to change your oil-coolered Cooper or S filter head to the screw-in element type, you'll need to change over the oil cooler head to hose adaptor. As said, did mine last year

Re: Spin on oil filter kit
I have a Cooper S and changed to a spin on filter some time ago, and still run a dynamo. As far as I am aware this is a standard fitment which I had among bits and pieces I have collected over the years.
As far as the oil cooler is concerned I bought a set of pipes probably from Minispares which have a straight male connector into the block and a straight female connector which fits directly onto the cooler, the length of the pipe is such that it forms a smooth bend joining the two.
The second pipe is a bit longer again with a straight female connector off of the cooler and a straight male connector into the top of the filter. The port for this is on the distributor side and inclined slightly in this direction as such the pipe loops up and bends down behind the dynamo without touching and with more than adequate clearance, the only time I would anticipate any problem is if the fan belt is worn and tightening could then create contact where the oil pipe loops over the top of the back of the dynamo.

Re: Spin on oil filter kit
yes Peter I can certainly provide pictures however, I have tried attaching pictures in the past but the jpeg is too big and I have no means of compressing the file, last time another forum member kindly offered to compressed and returned them via his personal e-mail

Not easy to see down there but here's a photo of a Purolator spin on filter housing, which utilses the same studs and mating gasket as the canister type. It's fitted to my MK2 S

Re: Spin on oil filter kit
Thank you floormanager for providing a picture of what I was trying to explain, for info as Peter showed an interest I have since managed to send pics of my set up directly to him.
Also thanks to Arctic Circle for the jpeg compression link, being of an older generation my computing skills have been driven on a need to know basis, I have previously abandoned attempts to attach pictures on the forum but hopefully with my new knowledge will be able to manage in future.
