Hi ,

I tried to write to the Ferrari museum, but didnt get any answer

But I did write in English, maybe if a mail was send written in Italien, they would answer ?

I dont think the car is gone, I am shure its hidden somewhere, waiting to be found.

These coachbuilt Mini,s cost a lot of money, and guys like Enzo, have proper garages to keep them in = dont rust the same way normal Mini,s do, plus its Italy = no salt on the roads

It's not Dino as he unfortunately died in 1956 sufferung from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. However I think that it is Lorenzo Bandini who raced for Ferrari.

I have read that there may have been up to three Minis in Ferraris possesion, and also that they were supplied by Issigonis, note on the petrol station shot that the car has dark coloured 3.5" wheels, possible from the works? The other shot has silver looking 4.5" wheels. The indicators and side repeaters look like they are similar to the type used on many Italian cars of the period, so were they modfied by Pininfarina, Ferraris most favoured coach builder/designer of the time?


PS I have just read the link above and saw the picture of the Ferrarina, which looks very similar to the Lancia Flaminia 3B Coupe, which was designed by Pininfarina. Also the Ferrarina appears to have Lancia wheels, so was it based on an early Fulvia?

Thanks for the info found the Dino story on Aronline, and didnt check if it was correct or not ?
(good thing I am not a journalist) ohh wait a minute --
this is just how they work so maybe I have potential, to become one

I did notice the different wheels before, also tried to enlarge the photos.
The one in the petrol station shot, dont show signs of quarter windows, like the other one, with 4.5 rims.

Further indication to being coachbuilt, are the seats = defo not std, if you look at the pic, where he is getting out of the car.

Check the rearlights ?? the chrome frame looks very "thick" = could it be a Innocenti ?
Afterall, we are talking Italy here, so there is big possebilety that it could be.

I heard atleast 2 Cooper,s so maybe 3 and they are somewhere to be found.¨

Imagine one of those come up on Coys or Bonhams dont think it would end in my garage

It was a guess and I have looked into it a bit more and I think it maybe Mauro Forghieri sans specticles.

Back to the Mini Cooper, in Richard Williams Enzo biograph John Surtees mentions the Mini being used for trips to Ferraris holiday villa. It also suggests that Ferrari asked his engineers to investigate rubber suspension for use on a Ferrari, so could this mean the Mini was a dry one. Another mention possible Mini influence suggested is the tranverse mounting of the engine in the Dino 246 GT.

On the styling front in Ferrari by Hans Tanner and Doug Nye I found a picture of the 1963 Ferrari 330 America, which has the stacked lighting with the side light off set. The car shared the body with the 250 GTE Series 3, designed by Pininfarina. One was sold recently by Duncan Hamilton with an asking price of £185,000.



And finally the Tanner/Nye book has a small piece on the Ferrarina. The engine was built in 1959 with a capacity of 849.5cc, bore 65mm, stroke 64mm. It had a single over head cam and gave 86bhp at 7000rpm.



The book states that the engine was installed in a Fiat 1000 chassis and tested extensively.

I have also found this quote stating that the Ferrarina body was by Pinninfarina.

Then, according to Bernard Cahier, "...the next thing we knew was that Ferrari had mounted this engine in a short wheelbase, 1200 Fiat with a Pininfarina body.." A little later on, at the 1961 Turin Auto Show, there was a very pretty "Ferrarina" GT sitting on the Bertone stand, complete with a 1000cc engine. Nothing more was said or heard until the summer of 1962, when it was announced that a branch of the Milanese De Nora Electromechanical firm had purchased the design and it would now be called the ASA 1000 GT.

I've still not found any other pictures of the Mini(s) yet, but I've still got a few more books to get through.

The gasstation pic, shows a full skirt front = rubber suspension, cant see if the other is wet ?
but it looks like the front is with the later cut out valance.

Don't think it was Mike Parkes either . He was 6'4" . Looks like someone shorter

At least this clears up one figure. Lack of hat and shave did it
