Thanks for input I just need to restore the vehicle and do the dance with dvla
Times money and I'm always short of both

In your case with hindsight the dance with the DVLA would not have been necessary if you had registered the V5 in your name back in 1983 and then kept any change of address updated. This would have likely kept the V5 out of the dormant section even without tax or MOT, even a SORN declaration was not required unless the vehicle was taxed after 31st January 1998 when SORN came into effect. A change of keeper is what seems to make an old V5 more difficult to get out of the dormant section and now triggers a DVLA requirement for a roadworthy inspection, likely not helped with a Cooper due to their now high values as a classic car.

Their is a silver lining its going to make me get the restoration started asap I will have to stop playing with vintage tractors and knuckle down :lol:
