Sound deadening

Post by TECH396 »

I'm looking for options for making a new piece of bulkhead sound deadening. I see MS has a product but it's not cut the way the factory did it. My original is pretty tattered and I've considered trimming some Hardura to suit and laminate some needlefelt to achieve a thickness of 1/2" but Hardura is quite stiff. . I've looked at both Somerford and Minispares
Has anyone found a close to perfect solution?

The hardest thing with that stuff is cutting it. It defeats pretty much everything after just a few inches. I got through about half a dozen stanley knife blades last time I cut one of those out.

The MS Ones used to be excellent, but the last couple I have had, they haven't been proper Hardura, but underfelt with vinyl stuck to the front & it has been absolute rubbish & fallen apart as I installed it.

It may be worth checking to see if this situation has improved, as it would be MUCH easier trimming a Minispares one to the correct shape than starting from scratch.

Recently has a bad experience with the under bonnet stuff, so if you do order some.. give the vinyl cover a good tug all round first to make sure its properly adhered. If it comes apart you can't reapply it either!

For the exposed areas of felt i coat with liquid electric tape works really well

Apologies for the delay, both sides are sealed, but not plasticised, so not waterproof however it is recommended for under bonnet / firewall. Thickness 3/8"

I use the liquid electric tape for two reasons (1)to seal it so it does not get saturated with water and fall apart and(2) it looks better where the cut's are for the inlet air tube bonnet hinges etc.
