I'd just say to the bloke lets do a deal outside ebay then... pay through paypal with protection, the guy avoids large ebay fees, and you get the item at the agreed price.
That crossed my mind, but getting messages like that over the ebay message system can be tricky, ebay often block them. M
The dodge on that seems to be to send a photo of a piece of paper with his email or phone number on.
To stick it up them, he could sell you a used post it note for
99p on a buy it now!
Or he re-lists at a start value of your winning bid (or any value to be fair) with offers, and then only accepts your offer. You both get the same result. Photo could be as poor as possible - you don’t need to see them now.
TBH, I reckon the prospect of (not) selling his item for nearly a grand has probably turned his head. I'm not that desperate to buy, but do feel ripped off.
I never, ever use auctions - always buy it now. I wait for the 80% fee deals so it doesn't cost much in fees. Getting through to an advisor isn't that hard if you get them to call you. The Irish call centre is better.
It's not as good as it was but is still the best platform to sell stuff.
Never heard anything like this! Been gazumped a couple of times where clearly the seller got a better offer and suddenly went incommunicado but never involved EBay scotching the deal. Have to say sounds really far fetched to me, and surely the seller could easily contact you outside of Ebay, especially via email, Facebook etc if he really wanted to complete the deal!? Or am I being cynical… *scratches chin*
