Minifins judder................

Post by Dan Tweed grey »

Happy new year......
Father christmas bought me a pair of minifin drums for the rear, however they seem to have tree high spots causing brake judder.
Any experiances with this problem?
cheers.

I've not had the issue with any of the alloy drums, but then I haven't had my hands on lots of them either, however a similar issue with new cast iron drums I have come across a fair few of is the spigot inside the drum that locates the drum on centre to the hub have been machined oversize, off hand, by around 50 to 100 thou. With the Drum running off centre, these gave terrible judder and pulsations through the pedal.

While this one is a proper fit, check for gaps where shown;-

Mine juddered, because of high spots so I had them lightly skimmed and fine after that.

I think it was caused by the wrong wheels nipping the drums.

Dave, has a point check wheel inner rim is not contacting the Drum Fins .. i had a set that needed a very small wheel spacer to cure the issue.

There's no contact with rims, looks like a manufacturing defect.
Is it an epensive job to get them skimed?

It cost me 4 bottles of beer. Unfortunately the guy who did it is no longer with us.
