Hopefully a simple one!
I have a 998 cooper engine which is minus it's starter motor. Am I right in thinking there were starters for A and A+ engines and that I need the earlier one? The motor from my 1988 mini won't do?
I also need the starter soleniod which from memory bolts via a bracet to the starter - do all the early starters have the two threads to take said bracket or does the bracket just clamp around the starter housing?
I have found this on the Bay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140736172929? ... 1423.l2648 Will this do the trick?

Re: Starter Motors
The starter motor you need should be a Lucas M35G.
The one pictured should be OK for your car.
The solenoid is bolted to a flat bracket which in turn is bolted to the flywheel housing.

Re: Starter Motors
Thank you very much for your responses.
If I wanted to drop this engine in a much later mini - could I do away with the starter solenoid or is it specifically required with the older starter motor? My donor car is an 88 model so I'm wondering if I can wire up the starter the same as the later type starter that's currently in the car.

Re: Starter Motors
I think you would have a bigger problem to make the gearbox work. Correct me if I'm wrong, but an A series remote extension will not work on a floor designed for an A+ gearbox without modifications.
The starter must be a M35G.
