My two pen’th (for what it’s worth)
Good evening all, I feel I need to say something about the departure of yet another forum member. I have been a member of this forum for a few years and probably spend far too much time reading virtually every post with interest, I have been to Blyton five times and have always tried to do my bit in helping anyone I can in any way possible, I have learnt so much from all the very learned members (having owned and worked on Minis, on and off, since 1977, I have realised how little knowledge I have compared with so many other members, I will now hang up my anorak ‘cos I don’t deserve to wear it.)
BUT, since I have been a member several very prolific and knowledgeable members have withdrawn from contributing, Rich, Surf Blue Stu, lost Spider for a while (but luckily he came back) and now Minisprinter. Who are we going to lose next Mk1, Pete, Peter Laidler, Nick W, Exminiman? If we lose all the best contributors we will be left with a lot of inexperienced writers of drivel and “boy racers” with not a clue.
All I ask is that if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all, please re-read anything you write before you click the post button and always remember that no matter how much you think you know there is always going to be someone who knows more.
So please please please let’s keep this the best, most good natured, helpful forum I have ever read. I am not a “clubby” person ‘cos most clubs seem to suffer from the same “minority” that seems to think that they are right and everyone else is wrong, if that is you then please go and join another forum where as far as we are concerned you can argue ‘till your heart is content.
In the meantime a big THANK YOU to all the members that give me something to read while the telly’s on.
Cheers Mark (stopped again, due to rain on ignition, faulty fuel pumps etc.)

Hear Hear!
Donning my rarely used Moderator tin helmet, and "Oh shit, Dad's a bit Pee'd off" voice, let me make this very short and very clear:
Look at the top. A FRIENDLY forum.
I don't care who said what to whom, who took what the wrong way, who should apologise or any of that. We are all grown ups, so can we all behave that way, please? If someone was a bit hasty with a post, or someone was a bit blunt in a reply, don'd add fuel to the fire- that doesn't help anyone. If we want bams and radges (The educationally sub- average, rapscallions and ne'er-do-wells, for our non-Scottish members), we all know Mt Zuckerberg has built a big bearpit for that nonsense.
We don't want to loose ANY members, and Mark, Mark and I should not have to moderate anything. If someone upset you, either sook it up, or message them and sort it out.
If people want to leave, hopefully once they cool off, they come back.
So, necks wound in, apologies all round and let's all play nice, OK? It really isn't worth all that. FFS we are all here 'cause we like 50 year old cars!
Here endeth the good natured bollocking
Al (putting tin hat back on the shelf. Don't make me take it down again. - let's let this one lie, shall we?)

Ultimately you’re always gonna come up against bad apples from time to time in life and there’s certainly a few that have made the Mini game their home unfortunately as we all know so it’s how you deal with them is the thing. The good thing is that they usually dig their own holes and bury themselves all by themselves saving everybody else the job. This forum’s always managed to maintain its dignity and civility (albeit with the odd hiccup), unlike much of social media, and the odd flounce or threat from a wrong ‘un isn’t going to change that.

Re: My two pen’th (for what it’s worth)
A real shame about Minisprinter, maybe an unguarded comment that any of us could of made if we didn`t know the circumstance's of the OP (I didn`t).
There will always be the odd disagreement, mostly though, my experience is they are good natured and are just people care about the detail.
I thought I had a good knowledge of minis before I came on here, then I realised how little i knew and much more some others know, some who dont post very much, know the most....
In my view, good natured debate is to be encouraged, it moves the whole subject forward, if you post something and your corrected, then you learn something, we all do.
If you feel like typing something contentious go off and make a cup of tea, it will soon pass, or if you have already hit the enter button, ask Mark to delete it - I have
We dont want to suffer from the dogmatism of the insecure......as most of social media seems to.......

What's good for the goose etc:
Death threats sound a bit extreme, but it was the kind of sarcasm we really don't need.

Re: My two pen’th (for what it’s worth)
I love that this forum prides itself first and foremost on friendliness, and that means it’s up to every single one of us who chose to register to respect, uphold and protect this wonderful meeting space that brings together people of diverse ages, backgrounds and experience from all over the world.Above all the MK1 performance Conversions forum is a friendly international forum where all views are welcomed in an atmosphere of mutual respect.
All I feel the need to say is to lead with empathy in all that you are and do, it really doesn’t ever hurt to be kind. Everybody is living a life outside of here that’s as rich and complex as your own.
I sincerely want to thank everybody that contributes in some way to this forum and continues to make it a really welcoming and rich environment for us all to learn and laugh along the way.
I’m sure Mark is run off his feet looking after this forum at the best of times, and so I thank you in-particular for keeping the wheels turning through any and all adversity.

Re: My two pen’th (for what it’s worth)
Yep, and me too, the only mini forum I ever use. Although I have been told that many of our threads/responses/articles are used on other mini type forums.
But sometimes, we've all got to be a bit thicker skinned. Nobody would really upset me......., seen too much of the real world for that. But I have occasionally had to end a comment with the fact that I've got my steel helmet on, awaiting the incoming mortar fire.
But a great forum.......

Death threats aren’t just abit extreme they’re completely unacceptable and I’d be dishing out an instant ban for that no matter who it was or why it was. No excuse. Good job I’m not a mod then!Costafortune wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2023 10:27 am What's good for the goose etc:

Re: My two pen’th (for what it’s worth)
As it seems I am the perpetrator of said reason for the loss of Mr Minisprinter, can I say with all honesty that at no time
did I make any Death threat to said gentleman or threaten his family !or anyone else that he is involved with!
I do however admit to PM ing him re comments made to me on thIs Forum! which I have always found to be friendly,
and fair and have read with interest all comments and Stories written by others and the gripes that some people have ,
If required I will repost the exact PM that I sent to said gentleman.
I have messaged the said person apologising for what I said in my first PM and as I am sure most on here would do the
same when verbally attacked for a stupid spelling mistake on a friendly Forum!
So lets say there are worst thing going on in my life and the bloody World than this .
I will however remove myself from the Mk! forum forthwith if asked to, before the man upstairs does anyway that
will be in the next 4to 6mnths

Perhaps MS should have used spell check in April?

Re: My two pen’th (for what it’s worth)
Frank,
Thank you for your post. I hope that can be the end of the matter.
I was, as I am sure were most on here, very sad to learn of your health issues, and I am sure any would excuse the odd uncharacteristic response here and there in such circumstances.
There are, as you are very well aware, far more important things to life.
Can we all please move on in a slightly wiser, slightly more circumspect manner?
Al

Re: My two pen’th (for what it’s worth)
There is one note I'd add... if it's not beating the proverbial lifeless eqestrial being.
Over time- I've noticed that many, many members are from the UK, england, british... however you wish to state it... area. As it should be, as the reason we are here- is from the region.
Many are not.
Remember that different things mean different things to others.
I've never seen a windscreen in the US ever!
Let alone a quarter lite.
But you fine folk have taught me much.
Please consider what you contribute to others- even just the little things.... vs what every one loses.

Re: My two pen’th (for what it’s worth)
Blimey, I've been out for a bit after catching the dreaded lurgy (you know, the C-word one with a number at the end; it is still around) and it's all gone to pot here... Hopefully the matter has been resolved, it's the knowledge and friendly nature of this place that makes it what it is. That said there's always the risk with a word written in jest not taken as such, it's difficult to type an inflexion. A quip can soon become a jibe when read in the wrong mood.
Of course I know what a dipstick is, you get called something often enough you look it up!
