Right hand tank bracketry

Post by Peter Laidler »

Can anyone out there in Forumland tell me the colour of the right hand tank rear seat upright and floor brackets were when the kit came as an optional extra.

Local mini pal stripping a late '69 998 saloon bodyshell has removed the optional r/h tank, (pin-holed along the bottom.....) and removed the two brackets. Both are painted in the usual microns thick black and rusty and marked what looks like MOWOG on the hidden side.

Beneath the brackets is body colour, indicating to me that the extra tank is a dealer fitted option from new (or newish) as factory fitted were unpainted under the brackets.

The Q. again is what colour were the brackets when ordered as an optional dealer fitted extra. Clearly not body colour I'd suggest! Thanks

I own a 1970 Cooper S that I've owned since 1971 and it was black as were the floor runners (with a rubberised gasket). I had the bodyshell repainted and lo and behold, the sprayer painted the bracket in the car colour. I'm so pissed off that I will never get the originality back. Hope this helps! R

Hi Peter, when we pulled apart our rally car the brackets etc. were black. They were fitted in 1969 to the best of my knowledge.

My mk2 998 cooper had a rh tank fitted when I purchased it in the 80’s, all brackets were black and floor bracket was fitted with self tappers,
the upper bracket to rear seat was bolted through rear bulkhead

Thanks all. We can acccet now that the BMC kit came with black brakets whereas factory came with car colour and unpainted under the brackets.

We had 850 minis with two fuel tanks but the brackets were all car colour, deep bronze green, indicating that they were factory fitted to large MoD orders. Thanks again.
