Remote gear box grease nipple
Hello . On the remote gear box how much grease should be put in ? Already put some in but can't see any signs of it coming out like it does on other grease nipple locations. Any information appreciated Thanks

Re: Remote gear box grease nipple
I have never seen a grease nipple in that location.
It looks like someone added that to the shaft for the bellcrank........makes a lot of sense.
For this to work....the bellcrank shaft would need to be drilled to allow the grease to go to the wear area.
Normally, the shaft would extend out through that hole and have a washer with a split pin.
There are rubber washers in the center to stop the bellcrank from moving sideways....they may not like grease!
I may be totally wrong here ...however, if this is what it is...brilliant idea

Surprised Peter hadn't thought of this

Thanks for reply. Was there when purchased the gt . Couldn't find any information in Haynes manual so possibly you right. Gear change works well. Mysterious. Time will tell I guess.

Re: Remote gear box grease nipple
Robbie, if you can get a mirror up over the top of the diff housing....you should see some grease around the bellcrank.....unless there is a piece of tape over the area.
Other way to verify is to drop the remote housing to see if there any trace of grease in that area.

Thanks gts had front jacked up wheels off to ease weight off suspension greased were needed. Laying on floor with a torch I can see grease that has come out of the top of bellcrank .

Unexpected luck. Think the engine and gearbox build was done by someone called Roger Hill. Spent ages going through hynes work shop manual looking for information not knowing it wasn't stranded. Thank anyway gts

Re: Remote gear box grease nipple
I'm a BIG believer in greasing up parts - as in my rear swinging arm modification for greasing from from BOTH ends. But I can't quite see this bell crank modification. UNLESS.... The grease hole is drilled almost all the way down the shaft with grease outlets in the centre for the cranked lever PLUS a grease outlet at either end.
This way, grease enters the shaft via the nipple and is fed to the main housing at each end.
This way, the grease lubricates the shaft and housing should the shaft rotate and
At the centre to lubricate the crank as it does rotate slightly on the shaft.
But what prevents the shaft from working its way out? Is it a circlip around the nipple end.
Or am I missing something here that I can't really make out from the picture.......
Regarding the other grease nipple at the rear of the gearbox, I have angled mine UPWARDS so that I can feed a long grease-gun extension down from above and click into place. Dead easy.....

Re: Remote gear box grease nipple
Good tip there from Peter for position of the grease nipple on the wand/remote diff housings. I always set them in this position when doing rebuilds. Saves scratching round underneath with not so flexible senior joints

Robbie already confirmed that he could see the grease around the bellcrank...so, that tells me the shaft is drilled to the center of the bellcrank....otherwise....the grease nipple is useless.
Regarding your point on what is keeping the shaft in place.
I can see a washer behind the grease nipple....that stops the shaft from moving sideways.
The person who made this conversion was pretty smart....they deserve a thumbs up.

Next time I build up a box...I will be doing this conversion.
Cheers
