Mounting brackets and locations for filter king
Where’s a good place to mount a filter king and who makes brackets? I’m thinking that on the nearside bulkhead triangle would be ideal..

Re: Mounting brackets and locations for filter king
Mine came with a bracket.
Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

Here you go https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/sy ... ket-mrb001
You may want to make one though……ideally fit as close to carb as possible, but in my experience its not so easy to find a decent place in engine bay, so many end up in the boot.
Its an idea to get a pressure gauge and check the fuel pressure at the carb, were ever you put it

Re: Mounting brackets and locations for filter king
The standard bracket that comes with them is fairly thin plate which is pretty easy to bend to whatever suits - mine is bent just over 90 degrees and then mounted on the front bulkhead roughly above the heater hose plate.

Any pics of it in situ? My washer bottle is in that location. Wondering if it’s possible to squeeze it in near to the radiator and the triangle part of the bulkhead stiffener.

Made a bracket for mine and attached it to the triangle reinforcement.

What's the attraction of these filters? A lot of people see to have them over just a standard filter.

What’s a standard filter on a Mk1? Never seen one only the one in the tank that always blocks up.

Re: Mounting brackets and locations for filter king
Mk1 minis don’t have a filter external of the tank
The filter king has a clear bowl and replaceable filter element. You can also get them with a pressure regulator to keep the carbs happy

Re: Mounting brackets and locations for filter king
I totally agree with you floor manager (previous page). If you are running a standard pump and carbs, a total waste of time as the pressure/flow is already regulated by the pump and fuel bowls. Don't forget that there is also a filter within the fuel pump too. If you needt a third filter, then go for it!

Re: Mounting brackets and locations for filter king
Its not generally the filter, but that you can regulate the pressure down to 2 or 3 lbs, especially if are not using an SU pump.floormanager wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2023 9:39 pm What's the attraction of these filters? A lot of people see to have them over just a standard filter.

Re: Mounting brackets and locations for filter king
I tend dissagre with third filter not needed , after about 18 months look inside filter king bowl, if it’s not needed why was mine contaminated.i know of a freshly renovated car that caught fire from a float chamber leak when owner removed the temporary in line plastic crap looking thing that was fitted to make it look factory, the particles got past the factory ones just look into an empty mk1 tank, rust city.

Re: Mounting brackets and locations for filter king
Agree entirely Rusty S. As I said, if anyone need a 3rd filter for some reason, then fit one. But to be honest, rusty tank particles should be being caught by the a) tank filter and b) the fuel pump gauze filters. Cheaper in-line one-way-trip filters are readily available.
Last time I drained my tanks I hoovered them out with a long extension pipe through the filler necks. There wasn't a lot of crap in them

Peter, I tend to agree that the filter SHOULDNT be needed but many years ago I narrowly avoided a fire when a float overflowed due to debris getting past the tank and pump filters. Thirty years of further deterioration won’t have improved matters and I’d rather be safe than sorry. And if I have to have something under the bonnet then it might as well look good, which in my view, the filter kings do.
