Hi, regulator box factory mounting location had been discussed long ago, are there a clear cut date for this to take place during the production of the S ? wet and dry car? basically we had found two main types of mounting points, on the RH cross beam corner, or on the inner side wing RH corner, is it all the 1071 and 970 S are mounted identical ? i.e. on the cross beam? I found most of the 1275s are mounted side way.
This is the position on my early 1969 MK2 Cooper S. I believe this is the exact correct position as it was originally fitted to the car. I don't know if MK1 Cooper S cars were like this but they shared the same brake servo.
I understand that sometime mid 1969, after my car was made, a new version of the inner wing was introduced that included a bulge in the area the regulator had been fitted, so the regulator had to be moved a little to accommodate it. The new bulge was a mirror image of the already existing bulge on the left hand side inner wing. This is to make room for the windscreen wiper motor.
I wonder if it was included on the right hand side inner wing at that time to accommodate the windscreen wiper motor on left hand drive cars where it became a requirement for the wipers to wipe as a 'mirror image' of right hand drive car wipers? Just my theory but would make sense if laws in some left hand drive countries became insistant on wiping that way at that time.

Hi Steve,
I presume the indent in the right hand side inner wing as shown on the photo is what you refer to in your post which is on my June 69 S causing the orientation of the regulator to be changed.

Yes, indeed. It's a mirror image of the indent on the opposite side. My car didn't have this on the right hand side but it appeared sometime during 1969 and may well have stayed for the rest of the life of the mini. If you get a new inner wing panel from the main mini parts suppliers it'll will have the indent. My new replacement panel fitted during my recent shell rebuild came with the indent so I modified it to be flat again so that the regulator can be in exactly the same place as it originally was. I think it was all about giving room for the windscreen wiper motor on left hand drive cars.
