285 order halted! Lots of interesting replies hence taking time to consider the best approach to take. Bearing in mind the spec I have and I’m looking for something tractable on the road what would you suggest?

Bear in mind the current cam is of unknown entity and will be replaced!

I reckon you are looking for a cam that pulls from 1800 all the way to 6000rpm. You can go from 4th to 3rd and it sings as you accelerate.
Kent 276 is too much and 266 is probably a good fit, but dated design. Have a look at AC Dodd RS or RS+ cams for something more modern. Available from Minispares and SC components.
I think all those mild HT cams will disappoint you for the top end performance.

Might be worth a call to Keith Calver, https://www.calverst.com/webshop/engine/

He and Russell engineering do quite a bit for the small capacity engines

His 997 “tweaked cam” might work

EVO1 or the Calver small bore cam will be just the job..

Spoke to Keith and the recommendation is the Piper 255 based on the spec and what I’m wanting, have ordered that and the followers. Will be running normal rockers and the SU 38 with a AAA needle, hopefully should make a nice drive.

Will keep you updated with progress.
