Twin HS2 Holden / ‘Miniworld’ 997 Cooper air filters.

Post by Minigman »

Hello Chaps

I’m ideally after some early cooper looking air filters for my twin SUs, unless anyone has some originals they’re willing to part with? The Holden Sprite/Mini Cooper ones look similar but can they be modified to fix on to a mini, despite Holdens claim they’re for a mini? Assuming you need to bolt through the filter like the originals.

Original ones had the two holes through them. Part nos 12A221 /222

https://www.holden.co.uk/p/air_filter_f ... i_cooper?s

If not these what’s a good period alternative? I can’t be having K&N cone filters :(

Also seen a pair on eBay re-manufactured by Miniworld.

Anyone have any experience with them, can’t work out if they’re originals that have been restored or not.

Have a look on ebay no 125982310133 . AH Classical Birmingham sell these Filters as for Mini .. but clearly they need the "missing two hole"s through the Gause to allow the Filter fixing screws onto the SU Carb.. So maybe it is worth contacting this manufacture to ask them to modify their 997 Cooper Filters with "Two Holes through the Filter Gause " .. just an idea ;)

Thanks. Good spot. I may get the ones as per the link above and give them a go. Holes already made and good value at £75 for the pair.

They don’t look a bad buy at £75 . I have a set of mint originals in my bits somewhere that I repainted a few years ago . Will see if I can locate them for a photo . From what I can remember the originals have some stamping of numbers on the back and pretty sure that the bolt holes are also tubed … Shirley

Thanks. It would be good to know if they’re tubed or not. Ive my seem a pair not fitted before so not sure if the detail. Like you say £75 looks cheap and worth the gamble I reckon.

Yes, the originals were tubed internally to prevent them from collapsing by overtightening the bolts

Thanks Peter. I may see if I can bond in a tube into these ones I’ve bought.

you will not need to bond in the 2xTubes .. those two Tubes just act as Spacers from the base plate to under the Bolt Head to stop any crush on the mesh.. similar set up found in the aftermarket round in shape shiny Pancake Filters.
Ideal solution would be to persuade that supplier to make copy 997 Cooper Air Filters with the two bolt holes through the mesh .. they could even be onto a nice earner ;)

I have these ones on my car too, they’re decent as far as a reproduction goes—I was pleased with them!

My only issue (and perhaps it’s me) is the breather outlet on the pancake is angled right up against the dashpot. I’ll have to cut this down slightly to eventually connect a breather hose back up. In the meantime, I’ll be looking for an angled 997 Austin rocker cover to make it look ‘right’.

Apologies to all for the tired looking engine bay, she’s a slow work in progress and definitely not ever going to be a concourse winner haha!!

Nonetheless, I’m sure some may find these pictures helpful. :)

I see what you mean. I will look out for that when I fit these. These repro ones must lend themselves to the jealous more I guess. Thanks for the ‘heads up’.
