Shelsley Classic July 22/23rd

Post by Pete »

With two dozen Minis on the entry list, (including a few members off here!) plus half a dozen interesting demo cars should make for a great weekend. There’s going to be a big McLaren feature, a celebration of 65 years of the BTCC, GpB rally cars, a couple of F1 cars and all the usual stuff you expect at this event. I’ve asked for a space to be provided for any Minis attending for those interested. I’m hoping to have Minty there and compete in the green bean. Looking forward to it!

Demo wise the Vita Buick’s there, a works rally car, Nicky Porters bringing his car (Sat only), we’ve also got John Fitzpatrick, Anita Taylor and Warwick Banks. Not sure on John Rhodes yet. Quite a few BTCC stars past and present plus THE Stig is competing but that’s top secret.

Shaping up well.

They've added Stig Blomqvist to the entry list now! If anyone wants to bring their Mini there’s a dedicated Classic parking area.

Hi Pete
Just back from Le Mans Classic and catching up. I plan to bring my Mk3 S Rally car and will be there Saturday & Sunday. Will the space for the Minis be in the paddock area or across the way? Really looking forward to it. Finished my trip in Stavelot but left on Friday so missed Spa Classic weekend. Did visit the Reims circuit as well.

At least five of us northern types have, being a MAC member definitely helps though! I’ll probably rescind my entry because they want Minty there to do some schmoozing.

Not in the paddock Cliff but definitely in the classic car parking which is very much part of the show!

Mark
I've been a member since 1974 and it doesn't always work.
Got an entry but just had to give it up,,,. Ferrari got in my way and they are valued and long term customers.
Very disappointed but you can't win em all.
So that's possibly two entries going begging.

Only realised when the competitors list came that `any mini' could be in what I thought when I put my application in was a class for `Cooper S' only mini's - well at least I can see you all go off and in the pre 71 class I have a Shelsley paddock garage - should be a great event hopefully lots of mini will come along

Thanks Pete. I'll be there on Saturday as a member and check it out but on Sunday will be in the Concours area.

Haaaa Honorary southerner , if it was a southerner coming up to Harewood he would need a passport once in Gods own County :D :D .

Mark Just looked at the $$$$$$ for spectators £25 each for one day or £40 each for two days :o :o :o , so if me and Janet came for the weekend and booked a hotel + fuel + food , it would be heading up towards £300 , i think i will pass , been before and it's a good hillclimb , BUT $$$$$$ for entry !!! ,it is southern rates :( :( :(

Couldn’t agree less.
We’re really lucky events like this are still even taking place I think because us so called ‘northerners’ aren’t willing to put them on! And if we do they last about ten minutes because people are expecting an entertaining grand day out for a tenner which just isn’t possible today, and that’s why our venues close down, don’t have decent facilities or consist of essentially a farm track or an access road to a reservoir, three or four sheep and a bloke in a butty van. Yet the premiership football stadiums are packed twice a week at twice the price to watch a bunch of thick multi millionaires kick a ball around a field.
Go figure!

All I know is these aren’t just another Hillclimb on a Sunday afternoon (and nothing wrong with that a all, I do plenty) or yet another static Mini show with all the same cars every time , they’re spectator events with a lot effort put in to attract rare and historic cars and some of the iconic drivers who competed in them. If that’s not you’re thing I totally appreciate that but you won’t get anyone spending six months organising a day out like this for pocket money prices because they’ll just go bust. And that my fellow northerners is exactly why we have so few comparable events north of the Midlands which irks me considerably and always has. :?
