Headlining tear repair

Any upholstery gurus on here that can help?

I have an early pre cream crackle grey style headlining in my 1960 Morris Deluxe. It has a V shaped tear in it about 2” long.

Does anyone know of the best way to repair it please?

There are vinyl material repair kits available.....I used this on a tear in the back of a red front seat. Comes with patches...and a number of small paints to mix for the right shade. These were intended for household furniture repairs.

Headlining would be difficult to repair due to the texture etc.

My suggestion would be to source another old headlining...remove the torn section from yours and replace it with a section from an old used lining.

Get someone else to do it. There’s leather and vinyl repair guys who will come round and do it for you.

Stitched my tear up with some fine thread and then glued a strip of material over the top using the material taken from the stapled rib area. Hardly noticeable when fitted. Not sure if the early material is the same as the cream crackle though.

I just stuck another bit of cream crackle behind the big tears on mine using high temperature glue. Then again, my car has ‘patination’ (knackered bits) all over it.

I can give that a go Gary. Just wondered if there was a more scientific way with good results. Best answer so far is to get someone else to do it
