The other day, I took a look at AJB 44B at Gaydon to copy the wheels and tyre arrangement.
The wheels are steel 4.5j
Tyres Dunlop Weathermaster SP44 145/10
I forgot to look at the valves. They appear not to be safety wheels, would they be tubed or tubeless?
Are the valves special in any way?
Any advice appreciated
Thanks
David

Re: AJB 44B Wheel valves
Cant say I know for sure, but race cars in the early days would use bolted in tubes, I got mine from Blockley , I found the wheel holes needed filing slightly to get the nut to sit flatter on the rim.

Re: AJB 44B Wheel valves
The original arrangement i the works cars would have bee tubed tyres, an RAC rule for tyres on unmade road surfaces. Tis rule was eventually done away with after Ford Escort puncture problems on the RAC rally when Dunlop pointed out that most of their punctures were caused by gravel debris caught between thhe tyre ad tube. In period 44B would not have safety wheels as they were not invented. The works cars would have used Dunlop race inner tubes which had a treaded metal valve stem.

While I was at Gaydon yesterday I thought I'd have a look at the valves on the Monte Minis. It was quite interesting. LBL had tubeless knobblies on the front with racing tyres on the back with screw valves without wheel hole modification.

Oh well it's only one of the priceless Monte Minis
They really don't try very hard down at Gaydon as far as I can tell...ten minutes is all it would take to sort that nut out!
