Re: Exporting a Mini from UK to Switzerland
I took 3 car to Crete last year( in a trailer)used a U.K. shipping agent to create a customs document before arrival at the U.K. exit port, drove down presented at Greek customs Which I elected (Piraeus) where they cleared then was ok to move on to get road registered . You will have to do the same but insure the car for road risk.you must do the paperwork before you leave the U.K. as you will be able to leave as everyone will think you are just going on a trip, but problems will arise when applying for Swiss documents

Re: Exporting a Mini from UK to Switzerland
Thanks for your inputs.
I am aware of the rules here in Switzerland, but it's the paperwork in the UK i am don't know.
I would prefer to not standing at the border in Dover and not being able to leave with the Car...

Re: Exporting a Mini from UK to Switzerland
Fill in the permanent export section of the V5 and you’ll be fine to leave the uk. I think your issue at Dover may be French customs as you will be crossing the EU not importing a car into it.

Speak to Kingstown Shipping in the UK they’ll sort the paperwork out for you for a reasonable fee to allow you to sort whatever import fees that will be payable in Switzerland which will allow you to register the car and it will also ensure you don’t have any hassle at French customs

Re: Exporting a Mini from UK to Switzerland
Hi Fabian, I did the exact same journey 10 years ago.
If you have V5 on your own, and the mini is registered, you can transit in France.
Remember to declare at Swiss customs, otherwise you cannot register it (mod. 13.20 A)

Re: Exporting a Mini from UK to Switzerland
We were in the EU then so you were exporting the car from the EU to Switzerland. Nowadays you’d be exporting the car from the UK to Switzerland and transiting the EU.

I have used Kingstown a couple of times. Always vey efficient & surprisingly inexpensive o do. I reckon it's better to leave stuff like this to the professionals.

Re: Exporting a Mini from UK to Switzerland
Mmmmmm, lots of opinions but here's my take on things. As I fairly often do, I take my year 2001 Rover Cooper Sport 5 to Dusseldorf once a year or so. Parked outside, there was a note on the screen asking me to phone a German chap who wanted to buy it. I asked how he would manage all the dealings etc etc and he said that registering it in Germany was simple with the ownership papers and receipt plus confirmation that I was the UK owner, permitted to dispose of the car.
The long and short of it was I took it to Germany and he would buy. Money transferred there and then into my UK bank, UK docs handed over (or sent) and that was that

Re: Exporting a Mini from UK to Switzerland
If you are planning to drive the car from LIverpool to Dover and out of the UK you must ensure that it is taxed and MOT'd (if applicable) and insured whilst on UK roads.
If all of the above are not in place and you are seen by a Police car they will almost certainly stop you - if the car is not taxed or insured it will be impounded.

Re: Exporting a Mini from UK to Switzerland
Now it's almost certain whe get a Car from UK.
One thing that is unclear is if whe have to pay VAT to this Car as whe take it out of UK?
This is written in the Advert: "The advertised prices includes all shipping & Import duties , UK Registration , UK number plates , UK MOT"
Anyone has an idea?

I doubt there will be UK VAT, as that only applies when importing, not exporting.

Re: Exporting a Mini from UK to Switzerland
So getting concrete on the Project.
Does anybody knows how it works with taxing and insuring a Car in UK if i am Swiss citizen to drive a Car from UK to Switzerland?
Are there any Sort of "export" Numberplates?
Sorry if I am asking all this silly questions, but I never did this before...

Re: Exporting a Mini from UK to Switzerland
I think you may struggle to get uk insurance if you don't have a UK address. You can tax it as soon as you have bought it. The authorities SAY they check the insurance later on MIDB.
Not sure if your Swiss address will do on the V5C documents.
There aren't 'export' number plates in the UK.
I wonder if you'd be best to have car transported to Dover. Or get the previous owner to drive it there.

Re: Exporting a Mini from UK to Switzerland
I think i have to ask the Seller, a Car Dealer, how to proceed.
Whe have calculated all sort of scenarios and i think the cheapest will to drive the Car down to Switzerland...
But i am unsure if this is possible...

Re: Exporting a Mini from UK to Switzerland
If it was the other way round, ie from Europe to U.K., we would insure the car in U.K. on the VIN number.
So I would speak to your local insurance, as the end user is in Switzerland, I don’t see why you can’t insure from there.

Re: Exporting a Mini from UK to Switzerland
So no possibility to drive the car home. Whe will take the trailer.
Does someone knows the opening time of the customs at the border at Dover?
Whe would hopefully leave UK with the Mini next Saturday afternoon...
