fe number date

Post by tobybone »

Hi
Trying to date a mini shell, would anyone have a rough build date for a front end plate reading FE48264 on a mk1 saloon.
Many thanks in advance.

Haven't got access to my data but, at a guess, 1960.

Has it got drip rails and / or recessed front & back screens.

It has drip rails and recessed screens. The reason for my query is the vin plate, engine plate and body numbers are present and match it is a morris deluxe, my heritage certificate gives a build date of June 1960 but I have read that this date is too early for recessed screens. The FE plate is spot welded and looks original and untampered with does anyone know if they built recessed screen shells this early?

FE stands for for Front End as far as I am aware.

I doubt whether this is an accurate way of dating a shell, production, would just of taken the FE from the line of front ends….the date will be approximate

Because my car has recessed screens and a build date of June 1960 I'm not sure if this is correct. The FE plate looks untampered with I am trying to see if the FE plate would show if my car had been reshelled etc.

FE43984 has a date of May 13th 1960 so a June 1960 build date looks to be correct for that FE number.

Many thanks in advance

Very late May ‘60 or very early June ‘60.

My 6th July built is 68k and the May 25th built is 46k.

No recessed screens until Oct ‘60 so it’s an odd one. Not heard of an earlier recessed car to be honest. Maybe a reshell and the FE plate was transferred over. Are the sills the flat type or vented?
