Suspension rebound rubber
When removing the front hub the Haynes manual says replace the rebound rubber with a solid packing piece. What would happen if I didn't do this?

The solid packing piece stops the top arm from moving down thus enabling you to push down on the lower arm to disengage the top swivel from the arm. Jack up the hub until the top arm is at its highest then remove the rubber and insert a solid packer, I normally use the blunt end of a cold chisel.

Or just jack up and add a piece of flat bar that will poke in-between the bump stop and top arm . Saves removing the bump stop.
That’s what we have always done.
Remember to remove it after doing the job … or you’ll wonder what the rattle clank ‘what the hell is that’ noise is when you drive up the road
